Avoiding Predictable Placements
Level: Advanced
Drop unconscious human habits and use a different arrangement every time.
Humans unconsciously tend to hug ships to the edges, place them symmetrically, or always orient them horizontally. If an opponent notices, your fleet can crumble within the first few shots.
Deliberately vary orientation (horizontal/vertical), position (center/edge/corner), and spacing every game. It's especially important not to always place your largest ship in the same corner.
The surest method is to introduce randomness, like Auto Place. Eliminating predictable human habits forces your opponent to rely on probability alone.
