How to Play

  1. First, deploy your fleet on the grid. Tap a ship to place it, use the R key or the rotate button to switch between horizontal and vertical, or use Auto Place to arrange your whole fleet at once.
  2. Press "Start Battle" and the computer places its own fleet out of sight. Neither side can see the other's ship positions.
  3. On your turn, tap a cell in enemy waters to fire. If a ship is there, it's a hit; if not, it's a miss. Hit every cell of a ship to sink it.
  4. After you fire, the computer fires on your fleet. Play continues back and forth like this.
  5. Whoever sinks all five of the opponent's ships first wins.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Battleship (naval combat) game?
It's a two-player game of deduction and strategy where each player hides a fleet on a grid and both sides take turns firing on coordinates — whoever sinks all of the opponent's ships first wins. On this site, you can play solo against the computer.
Is it really free?
Yes, every feature is free to use with no sign-up or installation required.
How do the computer difficulty levels differ?
Casual fires at random. Skilled tracks the area around a hit and searches using a checkerboard pattern. Admiral calculates every possible placement for the remaining ships and targets the cell with the highest probability.
Can ships be placed touching each other?
In this game, ships are allowed to touch, though they can't overlap. Spreading your ships out makes them harder for your opponent to track.
Do I get another shot after a hit?
By default, your turn passes after one shot regardless of whether it hits. Turn on "Extra shot on hit" in the settings to fire again every time you score a hit.
Where are my record and progress saved?
Your win/loss record and any in-progress match are saved only in your browser (localStorage), not on a server. They reset if you switch devices.
