Reading Miss Zones

Use the gaps created by misses to rule out cells too small to hold a ship.

Misses are confirmed information that no ship occupies that cell. A narrow gap surrounded by misses can't hold a ship above a certain length.

For example, if only a two-cell empty space remains between misses, no ship of three cells or longer can be placed there, so that area can be ruled out when searching for larger ships.

By progressively ruling out 'impossible' spots this way, the area where a remaining large ship could be narrows, letting you concentrate your fire.
