The Complete Rules of Battleship

One simple principle: hide your fleet, fire on coordinates.

Battleship (naval combat) is a game where you hide a fleet on a 10×10 grid and take turns firing on coordinates with your opponent — whoever sinks all of the opponent's ships first wins. Neither player can see the other's ship positions.

The standard fleet has five ships: Aircraft Carrier (5 cells), Battleship (4 cells), Cruiser (3 cells), Submarine (3 cells), and Destroyer (2 cells). Each ship is placed in a straight line, either horizontally or vertically, and ships can't overlap.

If a fired-upon cell contains a ship, it's a hit; if not, it's a miss. Hitting every cell of a ship sinks it. Whoever sinks all five of the opponent's ships first wins.
